Tara is our bitch that we kept
from Carys and Zorro . She is tall with long legs and a big coat
.She is very elegant and a beautiful mover and has a very pretty
and feminine head .
Tara is a 'talker ' and comments on most things with a variety
of whistles , whines and song - song that is most entertaining
.She is such a happy , joyful girl with an amazing temperament ,
very affectionate and sweet at all times and in all situations
amd she is a delight to live with . Tara loves to travel in the
car , enjoys swimming and loves to join in with whatever we are
doing .
She is a Junior Champion and progressing towards her full
Championship . |

Tara at Sligo Show mid July
2011

In July Tara
became unwell , she rapidly became very weak and dull ,
falling and stumbling . We took her to our vet who found her
to be suffering from a high temperature . This persisted
despite all treatments he tried . Full bloods were done ,
including thyroid , and they were all perfect . Her urine
showed no infection and was clear . Heart , lungs and all
organs were perfect as was her skin and coat . Eyes and ears
normal .A full series of X-rays were done and they also showed
no abnormalities , no neck or spinal problem. Our vets thought
it may be a brain lesion or a protozoan infection of some kind
. We had taken an engorged tick off her shortly before
she became ill .Her appetite and weight remained normal , and
no vomiting or diarrhoea .
Our vet tried
steroids but she was so much worse on them , they were stopped
.We kept returning and saw another vet who felt it was a
protozoan infection , and gave her an injection of a different
type of drug for this .We were so hopeful that this would help
her recover . Within an hour of coming home she began
suffering a severe anaphylactic reaction to the medication and
we raced back to the surgery with her . Nothing could be done
to help her and she died on the 23rd August .
We do not know if
the cause is environmental , a virus , protozoan , or
infection of some kind .
Darling Tara , the
light of our lives , gone so soon . We are left with broken
hearts and struggling to make sense of this .
We also grieve for
Porthos , diagnosed with a spinal malformation which according
to his vets he was most likely born with , possibly due to
being squashed in utero .
Travis who
suffered encephalitis/meningitis , found post mortem to be
Toxoplasmosis .
Recently another
dog Cody (litter mate) has showed
similar symptoms to Taras , and is being treated by his vet
.He has lost a lot of weight in the recent days and is very
weak . We hope very much for a positive outcome for him and
that the vets can treat him successfully. We are in regular
contact with his owners to offer support .
We have been working hard trying to
find the cause of this mystery illness or condition , and
would appeal to anyone out there , owners or breeders who has
had a similar case to Tara's and Codys to let us know .We
have talked with many people and owners in the last few months
after losing Tara, vets and breed experts and have researched
and to date this remains a mystery illness .Thank you to our
friends and puppy people for the great support we have been
given during this time .We will always be there to help you
also .
Both parents of
this litter continue well and have always been healthy and fit
,and are LPN1 tested . The lines are very well known and used
in the UK producing beautiful Leos without any problems to our
knowledge .We will however as responsible breeders be retiring
the parents .
