We are so thrilled to welcome Yogi to Ireland finally
the long wait is over!!
He has settled in so well and is a very chilled and happy boy. He
has adapted well to life in a new pack, in a new country, in a new
language.
We have also been so lucky to have a truly gorgeous new girl 'Prada'
coming to us in January. Heartfelt thanks to Dagmara for our
beautiful 'yellow' baby Enjoy First Class Ginger Heaven. A
spectacular litter from great parents.
September 2011
Leonberg is the biggest Leonberger show
and this year over 300 Leos from many countries competed we were
overjoyed that our Yogi won the puppy class (12 entries) but then
went on to win against the junior/youth male class winner (26
entries) to take club Jugendseiger 2011!!! He was assessed by
several top Leo specialist judges, so big thanks to Rahel for
handling him for us.
Some very sad news . We lost our sweet
girl Tara unexpectedly . Our hearts are breaking .Taken too soon
and suddenly .We miss you so much every day .
August 2011
Carys has her pups 5 big healthy boys and 2 super girls. All are
thriving and Carys is a super mum.
June 2011
Carys was mated to the handsome Ossie (Leokings Oslo). We follow
the Leonberger Union advice on testing breeding dogs for LPN1. Since
the DNA test was announced on the 1st of July 2010 all our matings
have been N/N to N/N, so all our pups are clear also. By following
their advice and breeding only N/N to N/N or D/N to N/N no early
onset of LPN affected puppies are born. All our litter details and
our dogs results are submitted to the Independent Leonberger
Database.
May 2011
We had our puppy
party. We had a good time, despite poor wather. We would like to
thank everyone that came. It was great to catch up ad see the Leos
again.
March 2011
Some highlights from this month
going to Crufts was amazing, so much to see and such wonderful
Leonbergers. We were absolutely delighted that Brad was in the cards
in his class under top judge Frank Kane. Well done to his happy
owners Donal and Ber.
Also we were thrilled to have
the opportunity to meet Bugsy - father of our Yogi who was one of
the most handsome and laid back males we have met. He lives in the
Czech republic with his family.
Also very exciting was our
chance to visit Germany. We have been looking for many months for a
new boy and we decided to go to the country of origin of the
Leonberger and to a long time respected breeder and highly
successful kennel of Lowengarten for our Yogi. Many grateful thanks
go to Rahel for our lovely boy. Yogi Bear will have his own page
very soon.

plenty of milk .
August 2010
Firstly , a difficult and sad time for
us as our son Richard died . We want to thank the many friends
from all over Ireland and further a field that have supported and
helped us and continue to do so .
On a happier note , we are delighted
that Zorro's kids continue to do so well . Over In Australia ,
Gracie takes out minor puppy in show and wins some challenges .
Louis takes BIS down in Co Kerry . Dexter wins a lovely cup for
best puppy at the Club show , and Brad continues his winning ways
having acheived 5 Green stars at just 10 months .Tara is doing
great , and we think she is maturing beautifully , with the lovely
soft happy nature that we love in this breed .
As we care passionately about the
health of our Leos and puppies , we are really pleased that a new
gene test LPN1 has just been developed .We are happy to follow the
advice of the Leo union and test our dogs for this .This test
picks up one form of Leo Polyneuropathy , severe early onset
disease , which means that dogs are affected before 3 years of age
.
( The University of Minnesota and the University of
Bern will offer genetic testing for the identified LPN1 mutation
starting July 1st, 2010. At this time we recommend that all
breeding dogs should be tested.
the current LPN1 test can reliably eliminate one
severe early-onset form of disease and significantly reduce the
overall frequency of polyneuropathy in Leonbergers. )

Our very first Leonberger
spring social was held march 31st 2007 at lough key forest park. The
weather was fantastic and all Leos and friends and owners enjoyed
themselves immensely. A big thank you to everyone who helped make
this event so special and our great photographer Ken for such great
shots of it! It is hoped to run this again early Autumn.
Show news .
Tulloch won his first CACIB under
judge Mr T . Bergstrom ( Sweden) . He already has a reserve CACIB
, and two green stars , reserve GS, and Best puppy, in only
4 outings .
He has developed into a huge ,
masculine male with tons of bone , and substance . A dog that has
real 'presence'.
2005 was a great year at Leokings.We
made a couple of trips, one to the UK to visit breeders in the UK.
Issa and Tulloch accompanied us , and really enjoyed meeting
everyone.
We also travelled to Cluny in France
to the big leonberger show there , which was a great opportunity
to see a variety of Leonbergers from all across Europe. It was
also a lovely chance to meet up with Leo friends abroad.
On the home front , we were able to
enjoy shows with our dogs and both did very well , winning every
time shown . During the year , we have enjoyed watching them grow
and develop, particularly Tulloch who went from a cute baby in
January2005 to a huge lion of a dog by December 2005!
Issa has matured from a frisky
adolescent to a more sedate young lady , now even more beautiful.
We plan a
autumn/winter
litter from them
A reservation list is set up with
bookings already so if you are interested in a Leokings puppy ,
please do contact us and arrange a visit.
We also hope to welcome a new Leo
puppy to our home later in the year and are very excited
about this .
Till next month ,
Bye from Leokings.
